DJ’s United For Our NHS

We had the great honour of hosting the  #djsunitednhs

On Monday the 6th a few friends (Ian , Mark Manning & Sarah Clarke) had an idea, why don’t we get a few DJ’s together and do a 24 hour non-stop online extravaganza to raise £3000 for the NHS, this idea was so popular the event had to be extended to 48 hours.

Gehric of -Systems was approached to the technical background and online streams from the DJs, process it and re-stream to lots of other platforms, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube & Twitter, of course, we accepted this great fund-raising idea

A full 48hrs of back to back music from all styles and genres. On Good Friday, DJ’s showing appreciation for our fantastic and amazing NHS came together in support.

The NHS themselves on the front line for us during these unprecedented times. All they ask is for us to stay at home.

Over the last few days, DJ’s came together who gave up their time and DJ’ing from their homes, to put on a bit of a festival and to help you get through these indifferent times.

We look forward to supporting more events over the coming weeks and months.

You can also donate to our NHS to show your appreciation for what they are doing. Let’s get connected, respect each other and stay at home.

Donate here, thank you 🙏🏽

Pitfalls to avoid while using online conferencing

Zoom, Skype, Teams, HouseParty, WebEx

We’ve been helping so many individuals and business setup for working at home that we came across so many pitfalls many users come across, so we have put together a sort of prerequisites for having a fault-free online video conference experience

  • There have been times where some users grabbed an old laptop that was lying in the cupboard, in a lot of those cases it is running an old or outdated operating system, always upgrade to the latest version. A computer with an outdated operation system highly vulnerable to viruses and malware as it is no longer supported
  • ·         Make sure your computer has the latest updates installed, even though it has just finished installing a current set, force the computer to look for more updates by going to the ‘Windows Update’ section and select check for updates and if there any install the updates, keep doing this until it says no more updates available
  • ·         Make sure your antivirus is up to date, like with the windows update above, force it to look for more updates. When this is completed it is always wise to run a full scan of the computers hard-drive
  • ·         Testing the audio, on some computers it may say there is a microphone already installed, to make sure you do have a microphone, and it is working, go into the settings sections of the conference software i.e. Zoom, Skype, Teams, HouseParty, WebEx, etc. and do an audio test. We recommend using a headset for this, a lot of headsets have a noise-canceling feature that will cut out any background noises, this makes your voice sound clearer for everyone to understand
  • ·         Test your webcam, similar to the audio in settings above, there is a section for this in your webcam program, check to see if you can see yourself in the box, some mobile users find themselves stuck in the vertical frame and can’t get the horizontal landscape aspect even though the phone is tilted, there is an option in the settings of the phone to unlock the aspect in the vertical aspect, uncheck this feature so both axis is available when the phone is tilted

A good thing to get into when you are not speaking is too “mute“your microphone, prevention of coughs, knocks, people in the background and worse of all, accidentally swearing.

What’s happening in the world of Huawei

This week we have seen some unprecedented decision from the US government, specially targeting China’s biggest firm Huawei

The US has put Huawei on the black list of companies not to do business with, once the word got out Google released a statement saying that they will no longer support any of Huawei Android phone products, What does this mean for the consumer, Google is saying that there current line of Android mobile devices will still can continue to use the Google service and updates but any new products will not be licenced to use the full fledge version of Android Operating systems

Other US companies like Chip giants Intel & Qualcomm has followed in the banning of their relation with Huawei and because of this the share prices of Google and the Chip giants plummeted

As a consumer we hear what the US intelligent agency is saying and all we ask where is the prove, over the past 10 years plus Huawei products has been used in so many telecoms companies across the world and over that time there has not been 1 reported incident of DATA being breach and sent to the Chinese government, on the hand Cisco has been known on several times putting backdoors into their product from the request of the NSA

What will happen to Huawei, there has been rumours that Huawei will develop their own brand of the open source Android operating systems or just develop their own totally new operating systems

This is something that we need to keep an eye for, especially for US firms at the drop of a hat the US government can say to US companies you can’t deal with that company anymore with immediate effect failing to do so that company could face huge fines or suspension for trading outside of the US.

Hackers can use your webcam to spy on you

In the recent weeks and months there have a phising emails doing the rounds, claiming that they have footage of you and if you don’t pay them, they would release the footage to all in your contacts lists.

Below are a few things you can do to avoid this….

Be extremely careful when opening emails and don’t solely rely on your firewall or antivirus to filter these kind of emails you have to do your part too, a lot of emails looks very genuine and if that email is asking you to click on a link for example to update your password, the best thing to do is right click on the link there you will see where that link actually takes you.

Another tell tale sign of a scrupulous email is when they start off by saying “Dear customer” and not your actual name.

All webcams should be covered up, pointed away or even disconnected.

Beware of Phishing Emails

At this part of the year, we see a sudden increase in Phishing emails.

What are Phishing Emails?

  • They are emails that look like they came from a legitimate company i.e. Banks, Supermarkets, social media plus loads more

Generally, they will ask you to fill out a form requesting all of your details including passwords

What is real and what’s fake and where to look

  • The email address where the email came from is the main give away, in a lot of case it looks like it came from someone’s personal email account, these are people that have had their email address hacked prior to this
  • This next way to spot a fake email, if the email asks you to click a link that leads you to an obscure website name
  • Real companies will never ask you for your password or bank details, especially the CVC code on the back of the card

What are the attachments within the email?

  • Another form of phishing is sending attachments with the email and asking the recipient to open it and fill out the form, if you do happen to open these types of attachment’s in most of the time it’s too late, your computer will be infected then the whole cycle will start again using your email address to send out phishing emails to all of your friends and family
  • If you’re not expecting an email Do not open the attachments claiming to be invoices, bank statements and so on

How would I know if I get infected and what shall I do?

  • The first thing you will notice if that your company may start to be extremely slow at responding, apps and programs take ages to load
  • The other thing you will start getting calls from your friends and family saying that you are sending then spam to them
  • The first thing to do is update your antivirus guard and run a full detailed scan
  • In more extreme cases a full system restore is needed
